A new perspective at Hangar
Welcoming Katerina Karamallaki as Creative Director.
We’ve never measured Hangar by the number of people in the studio. We’ve measured it by the quality of the conversations we have around the table.
That idea has guided us since 2012. From the beginning, we’ve chosen to remain a small, senior-led studio — not for lack of ambition, but because we believe the best work happens when experienced people stay close to every stage of the process, from the first conversation to the final delivery.
Today we’re welcoming Katerina Karamallaki as Creative Director.
Kat brings more than 17 years of experience across branding, packaging, campaigns and digital experiences. Her career has taken her through agency and in-house roles, as well as co-founding creative consultancy Casual Business, giving her a range across industries and audiences that few designers build in one career.
Experience alone isn’t why she joined Hangar, though. From our earliest conversations, it was clear we see branding the same way: that strategy should shape every creative decision, that good design solves problems rather than decorates them, and that the strongest client relationships are built on collaboration, trust and long-term thinking.
As the studio has grown, our way of working has stayed the same. What’s evolved is the range of businesses we work with. Alongside our work in technology, fintech, AI and other innovation-led sectors, we’ve found ourselves partnering with boutique hospitality brands, architecture studios and lifestyle businesses; from helping a startup explain a complex product to creating the identity for Portico, a boutique hotel overlooking Mosta’s basilica. Different briefs, same challenge: understanding people well enough to build brands they connect with.
Kat’s experience complements the foundation we’ve built over the past fourteen years. Hangar has developed deep expertise helping technology businesses communicate with clarity; she brings additional strength in consumer-facing brands, packaging, campaigns and multidisciplinary creative teams. Together, it widens the range of challenges we can take on.
This isn’t a shift in direction. It’s a continuation of what Hangar has always been — a small studio that grows through experience, values collaboration over headcount, and gets better the more perspectives it brings to the table.
Kat’s already in the room. We’re glad to have her there.
